How to reclaim most of unused space from VMware Datastore?

Solution

QSAN reclaim feature is reclaiming the continuous 0 block as free capacity. But if the user just do the reclaim process without the suggested steps, the reclaim capacity would be not as expected, It is caused by the VMware unused space blocks aren’t the continuous 0 blocks. So please refer the below steps to reclaim all unused space from VMware.

Let’s take the example. If the unused space from VMware Datastore is 50G.
1. Please create a new VMDK with 50G from VMware UI
2. Set the thick-provision and eager zero for this VMDK
3. Delete this VMDK
4. Perform the “Start reclamation” from XCubeSAN WebUI

Then the unused space would be reclaimed.
